White Cotton Organdy

I haven't worked with cotton organdy before but needed it for a historical costuming project and the price was right for this cotton organdy. It gives great body to petticoats and adds structure to dress construction. But the grainline on this organdy isn't straight, so you can't tear it to length and have it come out straight. You must cut it. It doesn't seem to affect how it drapes, but it slowed me way down with the amount of fabric I was using for skirt petticoats. I ordered two orders of organdy and the problem was the same on both. I don't know if that's just the nature of organdy, but I suspect the organdy that costs 2-3x as much might have higher quality. That said, I didn't deduct much from my rating because I really do appreciate the value of this organdy. It does what organdy is supposed to do, no one will ever see it under the pretty fabrics of my dresses, and I will just plan to use more time/care working with it in the future than other materials that have straighter grain.
